0266 - Language Endangerment & Identity in Africa

Course Description

This unit will explore the complex, playful, and fascinating ways that language shapes our identities, our social roles, and our ways of seeing the world - and how language endangerment in Africa has affected, or been affected by, these factors. We’ll learn about the amazing language diversity in African communities, and how language activists across the continent are “decolonizing their minds” through language reclamation.
