Course Description

BOC 1005: Indoor Environmental Quality introduces the basic causes of indoor environmental quality problems and begins to develop a method of diagnosis and solution. Gain an understanding of the dynamic components of indoor environmental quality in relation to source control, occupant sensitivity and ventilation.  Emphasis is placed on communications with building occupants for reliable investigations without aggravating existing issues.

Develop an Occupancy Schedule for your facility prior to  the next course, BOC 1006: Common Opportunities for Low-Cost Operational Improvement .

BOC 1005 may be taken as stand-alone course or as a course for the Level I Building Operator Certification.  To qualify for Building Operator Training Certification of Completion, BOC 1005: Indoor Environmental Quality must be completed with BOC 1001, 1002, 1003, 1004, 1006, and 1009.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of this module, you will be able to

  • Describe the key factors that determine indoor environmental quality in commercial buildings.
  • Identify basic air handling equipment and implications for thermal comfort and indoor air quality.
  • List the elements of a basic indoor environmental quality program and assist in creating one.
  • Describe the relationship between moisture, mold, and ventilation.
  • List the procedures to effectively manage indoor air quality concerns and complaints.
  • Communicate effectively with occupants about IEQ issues.
  • Identify a minimum of two information resources for managing IEQ.

Notes

The United States Green Building Council (www.gbci.org) has approved the core BOC Level I curriculum for continuing education hours toward the LEED Credential Maintenance Program. BOC 1005 is approved to earn LEED credential holders 8 continuing education hours.
