Experience Okinawan culture through dance in this introductory class. Participants will learn selected dances from the Okinawan classical & folk traditions. No experience necessary & no performance required. Bring tabi or socks to class.

Instructor: Yukie Shiroma has an MFA in dance from UH. For over 30 years, Shiroma has studied Okinawan classical dance & theatre.

Classes will be held at the UHM Music Department Room 118.

Instructor: Yukie Shiroma has an a MFA degree in dance from the University of Hawai'i Manoa. In 1987 she started the dance program at Mid-Pacific Institute where she served as Dance Director for twenty years.  She has studied Okinawan classical dance for forty years and is Artistic Director of Monkey Waterfall. In 2006 she received an Individual Artist Fellowship Award from the Hawai'i State Foundation on Cultural and the Arts. She currently teaches Okinawan dance in the University of Hawai‘i’s Department of Theatre and Dance.

Classes will be held at the UHM Music Department Room 118.
