Course Description

In this course, the core principles of community based research will be presented in order to gain knowledge about how to effectively utilize community engagement for research. Specific attention toward addressing health disparities in Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander populations will be included.

Course Outline

Topics to include:

  1. Community Based Participatory Research
  2. Center for Native Hawaiian and Pacific Health Disparities Research

    1. Module 1: Brief Health Related History

    2. Module 2: Ethical Conduct of Research Involving Native and Pacific Peoples

    3. Module 3: I Am Not You: Communication and Relationship Development

Learner Outcomes

  1. CBPR
  • Learn the rationale and core principles of CBPR
  • Learn the strategies for forming, maintaining, sustaining, and evaluating CBPR partnerships
  • Gain knowledge on using community engagement to adapt, implement, and disseminate evidence-based cancer control programs in medically underserved populations
